Piacere Barbaresco

50 producers, around 90 wines and tasting fatigue: (un)fortunately we only managed around 3/4 over 2 of the 3 days! What was very clear is that most producers made decent, but early maturing Barbaresco in 2007 with less aggressive tannins than 2006 . These young wines were already approachable and will not need the patience required with other recent vintages. As you can see below the price range is substantial but, compared to my favourite hobby-horse, Bordeaux, affordable even at the top end. Considering the 3 years that goes into their making, and the absence of a pre-release market, the quality/value equation favours the the consumer. For us there were few surprises and hopefully, being objective, some of our favourites shone e.g. La Ganghija, Lodali, Sarotto, Ressia, Sottimano. What was also clear is that at the lower end we have some more serious investigation to do. The prices quoted were published on the day and represent generally the price at the cantina.
