Where To Stay

Really Good Beds

If you want to know where to hang your hat or drop your bag, here are a few places to consider staying when visiting the region.

From Boutique hotels – you won’t find the usual big chains here – to Agriturismos, through city centre apartments to luxury private villas, there is plenty of choice!

Alba

Hotels

Hotel Giacomo Morra – The old Hotel Savona, fully restored, modernised and expanded.  It was closed for a number of years while the work was carried out, but it was worth the wait. On Piazza Michele Ferrero, the location could hardly be better.

Hotel Calissano – If you want something large, modern, international.  Right on the doorstep of the old town, it has underground parking and appartments, too.

Albergo San Lorenzo – Small, intimate, great location behind the Duomo, with a good wine bar next door.

Palazzo Finati – Boutique hotel tucked down a side street in the heart of the old town.  Small, characterful and beautifully restored old palazzo, central to everything in Alba.

Hotel I Castelli – The original international hotel in Alba, just a few steps from the town centre.

Villa La Favorita – Quirky, friendly, family-run hotel with a lovely garden on the outskirts of town.  Turn left out of the gate and you’re in Barbaresco in 5 minutes.

B&Bs

Alma – Beautifully bespoke-appointed bed & breakfast on Via Maestra, Alba’s main pedestrian thoroughfare.  Sumptuous rooms, comunal space and breakfasts.  They have a separate appartment, too – also designed by the architect-owner.

Voglia di Vino Locanda –  Three rooms, an apartment, a restaurant/wine bar and a wine shop, spread over 3 locations in the same quiet street right in the heart of the old town.  All are great!

La Pajassa – In a quiet street just on the edge of the old town, La Pajassa is run by the lovely Monja & Giovanni.  It’s a great option!

Apartments

Casa Mandelli – Modern, cozy & very stylish apartment in an old palazzo right in the centre of Alba.

Rivetto Suites – Modern, central to the old town and winery-owned, it also has off-street parking.

Affitti Alba –  A range of stylish apartments right in the middle of the old town.  Don’t be put off by the Italian website – Martina speaks perfect English, too!

Barolo

La Giolitta – Small B&B right in the heart of Barolo village, with a lovely separate apartment.

Villa Carla – Terrific villa in Barolo village, with great facilities and a pool overlooking the castello.

Corte Gondina – Lovely boutique hotel with pool, beautiful garden and off-street parking in the village of La Morra.

Palas Cerequio – Winery-owned luxury hotel and spa with pool and parking among the vines of La Morra.

Villa Burlotto – New, 3-bedroom private villa with a pool and all the amenities, run by the delightful family behind La Cantina in the same village of Verduno.

Le Case della Saracca – Hugely characterful B&B with a fantastic wine bar and restaurant in the medieval part of Monforte d’Alba.

Villa Beccaris – Romantic boutique hotel with pool, garden, private parking and wonderful views in the medieval part of Monforte d’Alba.

Hotel Castello di Sinio – One of the best boutique hotels in the region, with a pool, beautifully maintained gardens and a terrific restaurant, all in the out-of-the-way village of Sinio, right on the doorstep of the Barolo region.  And your bedroom might the one featured in the header…

Locanda Fontanazza – Great restaurant in La Morra with terrific views and 4 rooms as a B&B.  It also has a pool and private parking.

Costa di Bussia – Agriturismo nestled among the winery’s vines in Monforte d’Alba.  Lovely rooms and wines to match, with an interesting cellar museum as well.

Rocche Costamagna – Historic winery in the village of La Morra, with 4 beautifully appointed rooms, complete with stunning terrace views.

Tota Virginia – Lovely hotel in Serralunga d’Alba with a great restaurant, private parking and a pool with some of the loveliest views in Barolo.

Cascina Meriame – Agriturismo owned by the producer Paolo Manzone in Serralunga d’Alba, with stunning views, great rooms, great hospitality, a pool and lovely wines.

Cascina Sciulun – Agriturismo among the vines of Monforte d’Alba, with wonderful wines, great hospitality and too much food!  Only a few minutes’ walk to Barolo village.

Brezza Hotel – The original hotel in Barolo village, with a pool facing the castle, a great restaurant and great wines.

Castello di Verduno – Historic property in the village of Verduno, with lovely rooms and suites, as well as a self-contained farmhouse.  They also make great wines, which you can try at the cellar door, or in their restaurant.

Scarpa Villas – Superb complex of 4 private but interlinked villas with a shared pool.  Spectacular views, amazing service from Katariina and her team, plenty of optional activities and wonderful wines from owner, Scarpa.

Barbaresco

Agriturismo ErcolAna – Located between Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso, this is a real family affair.  Great rooms, the warmest welcome imaginable and vast meals to die for.

Cascina Baràc – Agriturismo in San Rocco Seno D’Elvio, just a few minutes’ drive from Alba, with their own wines to boot.

Casa Boffa – Family-run winery with rooms right in the heart of Barbaresco village.

Casa Nicolini – One of the best views in Barbaresco, with a pool, private parking, great restaurant, sauna, gym and villas.  Located in Tre Stelle, a 3 minute drive from Barbaresco village, passing some of the best vineyards in the region.

Al Palazzo Rosso – Small boutique hotel in the lovely old hilltop village of Neive.

Aromatario – B&B in the lovely old hilltop village of Neive, with a good restaurant, too.

Bottega di Rosanna – A stalwart of Castagnole delle Lanze, with a variety of enticing accommodation options.

Carlin Carlota – Lovely Agriturismo among the vines of Neive, with a restaurant, a pool and great views.

Gilda e i suoi Amici – Quirky B&B nestling in the countryside of Neive.  It helps if you like animals.

 

Fattoria San Giuliano – Small Agriturismo in Neive with a pool and their own wines.

Hotel Borgese – Lovely, intimate conversion of 3 derelict old buildings in Neive old town.

Hotel Castelbourg – Another small hotel in Neive old town – be sure to try the adjacent Cinciallegra wine bar.

Traversa – Wine producer-owned Agriturismo in Neive, with pool, lovely rooms and interesting wines.

Ca Tupin – New B&B in Treiso with lovely rooms, open spaces, great views and great prices.

Orlando Abrigo – Winery-owned Guesthouse high up in Treiso, with pool, views and great wines.

Villa Incanto – 6 room hotel in the village of Treiso, with a pool and amazing views.

Cascina Delle Rose – Small, family-run B&B in Tre Stelle with 5 apartments, great views and lovely wines made by the family.

Dai Grésy – A new Relais from Barbaresco producer Marchesi di Grésy.  If anything, even better views than Casa Nicolini, wonderful service and great people.  And the wines are serious.

Other Places

Villa San Lorenzo – One of the best luxury villas around, nestled in the tranquillity of the Alta Langa, far from the madding crowd.

Casa Langa di Lola – If it’s peace you crave, look no further!  Host Laura, wine-lover & sommelier, offers a wonderful, friendly stay, seemingly remote, yet only a few minutes’ from all the amenities.

Castello di Guarene – The most expensive hotel in the region is housed in the Castello of Guarene, with ornate rooms, restaurant, spa and mature gardens.

Ca’ Alfieri – Lovely accommodation in a historic building in Govone, with a pool and spa.

Marchesi Alfieri – Situated in the castle of San Martino Alfieri, the estate has been producing since 1696.

Ca’ delle Rondini – Terrific villa, a blend of ancient and modern, with a pool and lovely garden, located in Cossano Belbo.

Villa d’Amelia – Luxury hotel 10 minutes from Alba and Barbaresco, with a Michelin-Star restaurant, pool, spa, private parking and lovely views.

Relais San Maurizio – A beautiful former monastery from 1619 in Santo Stefano Belbo, this luxury hotel has a pool, mature grounds, a Michelin-Star restaurant, spa and private parking.

Ascheri – Winery and hotel (and spa!) complex in the heart of Bra, only a short stroll from the station.  This has every amenity you could wish for – you could spend a week here and not leave the property…

La Dindina – Agriturismo in the village of Nevigile, with just 3 lovely rooms, a restaurant that will do cooking classes, too, and a wine cellar from another age.
